What the ranking tells us

Falling and teeth dominate: the two classic anxiety dreams, which track with what psychology and the interpretive traditions agree on: loss of control and unprocessed stress. Death and snakes, traditionally read as transformation, round out the top: the symbols people most often want explained are the ones that scare them most. Lucid dreaming ranks surprisingly high, a sign of the growing popular interest in conscious dreaming.

Frequently asked questions

Is this ranking based on real dreams?

It is based on our corpus of interpretation articles, which were built from real keyword research: so it reflects what people search for and read about, which closely tracks the dreams people actually have and worry about.

Why are falling and teeth so common?

Both are classic anxiety dreams. Falling is associated with a loss of footing or control; teeth falling out is widely read as a symbol of stress, loss of control, or a transition: which is why they lead most dream dictionaries, including ours.
