Numerology Calculator
Your birth date and your full name carry six numbers in the Pythagorean tradition: the Life Path, Expression, Soul Urge, Personality, Birthday, and Maturity. Enter your date and name below, and the calculator reduces them the traditional way: master numbers 11, 22, and 33 kept intact, every other result reduced to a single digit.
Updated August 23, 2026: standard Pythagorean and Chaldean letter charts, master numbers preserved, meanings following the consensus of Western numerology practice.
What Are Your Numerology Numbers?
Numerology reads the two things you carry everywhere: your birth date and your name. In the Pythagorean system, every letter of the alphabet maps to a number from 1 to 9, and every number carries a character. Your date reduces to the Life Path, the number of your life's direction. Your full name reduces to the Expression, the number of your talents and the way you meet the world. The vowels of your name give the Soul Urge, what you want at the level of the heart. The consonants give the Personality, the face you show first.
None of these numbers is a verdict. They are a vocabulary: a way of noticing patterns in how you decide, what drains you, and what feeds you. The same tradition that says a 4 is a builder also says every number carries both a gift and a shadow, and the work of the number is learning to use the gift without tripping over the shadow. The meaning table below gives both sides for every number, so you can read your results honestly rather than as flattery.
Master numbers deserve a special note. When a calculation lands on 11, 22, or 33, the tradition does not reduce them: they are kept as master numbers because they carry the vibration of their root (2, 4, and 6) raised to a higher intensity. A Life Path 22 is a Life Path 4 with a blueprint in hand. The gift is larger, and so is the pressure, which is why the master number readings on this page always mention both.
How the Calculation Works
The calculator follows the standard Pythagorean method. The Life Path is the sum of your birth month, day, and year, each reduced to a single digit first, then added and reduced again. The Expression is the sum of every letter of your full birth name using the chart A=1 through I=9, then J=1 through R=9, then S=1 through Z=8. The Soul Urge is the same sum applied to the vowels only; the Personality, to the consonants only. The Birthday number is simply your day of birth reduced, and the Maturity number is the Life Path plus the Expression, reduced.
The Chaldean option uses the older Chaldean chart, which assigns values from 1 to 8 and does not use the number 9. The chart is: A, I, J, Q, Y = 1; B, K, R = 2; C, G, L, S = 3; D, M, T = 4; E, H, N, X = 5; U, V, W = 6; O, Z = 7; F, P = 8. The two systems agree on the Life Path (which comes from the date, not the letters) and differ on the name numbers. Try both: when they agree, the reading is emphatic; when they differ, the difference itself is information.

How to Read Your Results
Start with the Life Path: it is the backbone, the theme of the whole life. Read its meaning, then look at the Expression: that is how you act on the theme. A Life Path 5 with an Expression 4, for example, is a traveler who builds systems around the travel: the two numbers working together tell a richer story than either alone. Then read the Soul Urge as the private layer and the Personality as the public one. The gap between them is often the most useful thing on the page: the difference between what you want and what you show is the exact place where most people feel misunderstood.
The Birthday number is a smaller, daily number: the flavor you bring to ordinary days. The Maturity number is the number you grow into after roughly the age of 35, the theme of the second half of life. When the Maturity matches the Life Path, life gets simpler with age; when it differs, the second half of life asks for a different skill than the first, and the calculator's reading of both helps you see the shift coming.
If a master number appears anywhere, read it as an amplifier: the root number's gift at double intensity, with the shadow at double intensity too. Master number readings are never a free pass; they are a contract. The tradition is blunt about this, and the meaning table keeps the blunt version.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate my numerology numbers?
Enter your birth date and full birth name in the calculator. Your Life Path number comes from reducing your birth date to a single digit, your Expression number from the letters of your full name, your Soul Urge from the vowels, and your Personality number from the consonants. Master numbers 11, 22, and 33 are kept, not reduced.
What is a Life Path number?
The Life Path number is the most important number in numerology: it describes the central theme of your life, the lessons you are here to work through, and the direction your life naturally takes. It is calculated from your full birth date.
What are master numbers 11, 22, and 33?
Master numbers are double digits that are not reduced in numerology: 11 (the Intuitive), 22 (the Master Builder), and 33 (the Master Teacher). They carry a higher, more intense vibration than their single-digit roots, and they come with greater gifts and greater pressure.
Which name should I use for numerology?
Tradition uses the full name written on your birth certificate for the Expression, Soul Urge, and Personality numbers. Names you choose later, like a married name or a craft name, can be read separately as the name you are growing into.
What is the difference between Pythagorean and Chaldean numerology?
The Pythagorean system assigns letters to numbers 1 through 9 in alphabetical order and is the most common system in the West. The Chaldean system uses an older table with values 1 through 8, and it is considered by some to be more subtle. The calculator offers both.
Sources
The letter charts (Pythagorean and Chaldean) and the reduction method, including the preservation of master numbers, follow the standard consensus of Western numerology as taught in the classical texts of the tradition. The meaning table synthesizes the traditional readings of the numbers 1 through 9 and the master numbers 11, 22, and 33. This page is descriptive: it reports what the tradition says, and the calculator reproduces the traditional arithmetic exactly.
